Notice are sent to landlords if the RTB believe a tenancy has not been registered

Registration Enforcement

The Registration Enforcement section aims to ensure that all rented tenancies are registered.

What to do about an unregistered tenancy

All tenancies should be registered with the RTB. Further information on how to register a tenancy can be found here. If the tenancy has not been registered within one month of the beginning of the tenancy a late fee will apply.

What do I do if I have received a notice?

Contact the Registration Enforcement section quoting the reference number on the received notice/solicitor's letter, the reference will begin with ‘RE’ and can be found at the top of the notice.

To discuss the required actions that may be taken or if there is a query regarding non-compliance/ legal proceedings, contact the Registration Enforcements section of the RTB  on 0818-303038 (Mon-Fri 9.30am-5pm) or by email at enforcement@rtb.ie

If a tenancy is unregistered, an application to register a tenancy must be submitted on receipt of a Registration Enforcement notice. When a registration number is received, confirming the registration of the tenancy in question, Registration Enforcement should be contacted with this number to confirm registration and to stop legal proceedings.

Late registration fees

In all circumstances where the application to register is received by the RTB later than one month from the tenancy commencement date, the late fee applies. The late fee is €180, double the standard tenancy fee of €90.

There are late fees for any registration that are not completed within 1 month of the tenancy commencing.  The RTB has no power or discretion to waive the late fee in any situation, regardless or the circumstances or reason for delay.
