Refund of Irish Water charges

Irish water has issued 95% of the refunds by cheque. If you have not received yours you should contact Irish Water.

Irish Water is to begin winding down the domestic refunds process as 95% of cheques have been issued to customers since late November. Over the coming weeks Irish Water will make a final appeal to customers who have yet to receive their domestic water charges refunds to update their details either via the online portal at or by calling 1850 448 448. Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm.


Who will receive the refund?

Only the person who originally paid the bill and whose name is on the account will receive the refund.


How will the refund be made?

A cheque will be sent to the Irish Water account holder at their registered address.


What do you need to do?

You do not have to apply or contact Irish water for your refund unless your address or personal details have changed and you have not already told Irish Water.


How to update your address and personal details?

If your address or other details have changed and you have not already told Irish Water please contact themimmediately to update your account. Contact them on Callsave 1850 448 448 or +353 1 707 2824, Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm. Please have your WPRN and Account Number to hand, alternatively a number of security questions will be asked to protect customers’ accounts.


What if I paid my landlord for the water charges but the bill was in my landlords name?

Then Irish Water will refund the money to your landlord as the bill was in their name. You must contact your landlord to organise a refund from them.
